Zara: 50 Years. 50 Icons.
June 5, 2025
Fifty years ago, on a quiet street in A Coruña, Spain, a fashion revolution quietly began. What started as a single store opened by Amancio Ortega on May 9, 1975, has grown into one of the most influential fashion brands in the world: Zara. This year, Zara celebrates its golden anniversary with a tribute that’s as timeless, sophisticated, and trendsetting as the brand itself.
A Capsule Worthy of the Moment

To mark this milestone, Zara unveiled a striking Anniversary Collection rooted in the monochrome glamour of tuxedo dressing. With more than 100 limited-edition pieces, the collection channels a refined yet seductive aesthetic—think satin, lace, cut-outs, and mesh details—rendered in a moody palette of black with touches of white.
From pleated trousers and leather pants to sleek suits, elegant dresses, and meticulously crafted accessories, each piece is designed to transition seamlessly from evening to night. The collection is a nod to half a century of style and a celebration of Zara’s enduring ability to translate cultural and fashion cues into modern classics.
50 Models. 1 Iconic Song. Endless Love.
No celebration of fashion would be complete without a bold creative statement. Enter Steven Meisel, the legendary lensman behind a stunning new motion film that gathers 50 of the world’s greatest models—including Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, and Twiggy—to perform Donna Summer’s iconic 1977 hit, “I Feel Love.”
Conceptualized by Marta Ortega Pérez, chair of Inditex (Zara’s parent company), the film is an ode to the brand’s creative core. It captures the spirit, beauty, and individuality of each model while collectively celebrating Zara’s artistic legacy and emotional connection with generations of fashion lovers.
A Homecoming Like No Other

It all began on Calle Juan Flórez, and fittingly, the original store has been reimagined for the 50th anniversary. Blending modern design with architectural elements intrinsic to A Coruña, like the iconic seaside “galerías,” the installation offers more than fashion. It invites visitors into a curated space filled with commemorative pieces, artful design, and even a café and lounge stacked with magazines spanning from May 1975 to the present.
The Brand That Redefined Fast Fashion
Zara’s story isn’t just one of retail expansion… It’s one of transformation. From its early days under Ortega’s company, Confecciones GOA, to its evolution into a global powerhouse with presence in 98 physical markets and 214 online markets, the brand has remained anchored by a simple philosophy: listen to customers, adapt swiftly, and deliver quality fashion at accessible prices. Zara’s vertically integrated model allows it to interpret global trends and customer feedback in real time, infusing collections with relevance, agility, and innovation.
Today, Zara continues to blur the lines between physical and digital retail, investing in architectural design, technology, and sustainability while ensuring the shopping experience is seamless and inspiring. Its commitment to creativity and customer-centricity has defined not just its past, but its future. At flagship stores like the Aventura Mall location, Zara creates carefully curated spaces with technological advancements to help foster a deeper connection with guests at each level of the shopping experience.
Ortega Pérez detailed in the company’s 2024 Annual Report: “We remain steadfast in focusing our intention on people. First and foremost, our customers, putting our creativity to work for them, through our collections but also through their experience in our stores, whether in person or online, offering them cutting-edge technology.”
As Zara celebrates its 50th anniversary, the brand remains true to what has always made it extraordinary: a fearless embrace of change, an instinct for design that resonates, and a commitment to democratizing fashion. Here’s to five decades of defining and redefining style—and the future looks that await.
