Back to Backpacks

From oversized monogram totes to nearly microscopic purses, the fashion industry has seen its fair share of trendy bags. Today, we’re going back to basics and highlighting a classic, hands-free bag that is making a comeback: the backpack. These aren’t the JanSport bookbags from your middle school days – we’re talking luxe carryalls that are equal parts stylish and functional.

Picking the perfect ‘pack is an essential step in elevating your fall fashion game, so we’ve rounded up some of our top designer choices. Your job is to pick a favorite and start shopping.

Louis Vuitton’s iconic Montsouris backpack, which was first unveiled in 1994, has been refreshed with elegant Monogram Empreinte leather and is now available in Turtledove, Black or New Crème colors. The pack’s pure lines are enlivened with a vintage-style golden buckle and a playful yet subtle LV charm. Two adjustable leather straps make this body-friendly bag comfortable to carry, while the zipped outside pocket gives easy access to essentials.

Two of the most definitive genetic markers of the Gucci brand – the GG canvas and the House Web stripe – define the new Ophidia backpacks. Part of the design house’s pre-fall collection, this versatile pack is offered in a variety of sizes and interpretations, so it can be used as a travel accessory or bookbag.

Stand out as the leader of the pack.  The check accessory was born in 1967 when a buyer in the Burberry Paris store removed the signature lining from a coat to wrap luggage and create an umbrella cover. Continuing this tradition, and inspired by military designs, the timeless Rucksack backpack has been updated in Vintage check and Icon stripe as well as made with ECONYL® – a sustainable nylon yarn made from regenerated fishing nets, fabric scraps and industrial plastic – and finished with topstitched leather trims.

Going green in blue tartan (plaid) has never looked this good. Longchamp’s new Green District collection features bags made with ECONYL® recycled nylon. Ideal for the urban man who is always on the go, the modifiable backpack features removable straps that can be adapted for any occasion.

The Stark backpack in Powder Pink by MCM is ideal for those who like to blend functionality and fashion. Crafted in the brand’s signature Visetos with a faux nappa leather lining, 14-karat gold hardware, and finished with gold studs adorning each side pocket, this backpack is as edgy as it is practical.

The Men’s FF Logo Explorer Backpack by Fendi is crafted with a mix of luxury materials and high-tech fabrics, ensuring your next journey will be easier and far more stylish. The large bag offers plenty of interior and exterior storage space, while the wide top handle and adjustable shoulder straps make it effortlessly easy to carry.

Givenchy’s Spectre backpack fuses faded ombre nylon fabric with a zippered triangular leather flap that creates a futuristic look. The “Givenchy” tag down the middle splits apart via zipper for an ultra-unique style while maintaining its functionality. Inside, a large pocket is dedicated to protecting your laptop or folio, while the two side pockets can fit your headphones, wallet and other go-to accessories.

From Prada’s SS20 Collection, available at Bloomingdale’s, this nylon backpack combines luxurious Saffiano leather details with modern charm and contemporary functionality. Its two inside pockets and top flap with a drawstring and magnetic closure will ensure your cargo is always organized and secure.

Marc Jacobs has been a fan of the comic strip Peanuts® ever since his babysitter gave him a stuffed Snoopy at age 6. This collaboration pays homage to this early reference and celebrates his favorite Peanuts crew. The Peanuts X Marc Jacobs medium backpack features is durable yet lightweight featuring two zippered front compartments for all your everyday items.

Part of the Coach Originals collection, which celebrates the brand’s legacy and New York heritage, the Turnlock bag in Pewter/Cerise has been reimagined for today. The glovetanned leather style is based on the beloved 1997 Coach design. Finished with the iconic turnlock closure and classic edge-binding construction for durability and extra strength, it has a spacious open compartment with multifunction pockets, an interior drawstring closure, a convenient top handle and comfortable adjustable straps. Some styles are just too good to leave in the archives.
