The year may yet be young, but it’s already given watch fans plenty to get excited about. As always, anniversaries are a major theme in 2023, and reissues have already begun to flow forth — a trend we most certainly saw at Watches & Wonders Geneva, the industry’s biggest trade show, where brands like Rolex and Cartier release their most important products of the year. At their best, these embody the pinnacle of storied craftsmanship and innovation with just the right mix of design, art, and engineering. Whether you’re looking to purchase something sturdy and sensible or a true heirloom-quality keepsake investment, we’ve assembled the latest top-notch tickers riding the horological wave available at Aventura Mall.

Cosmograph Daytona by Rolex

The emblematic style and superlative performance of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona have cemented its iconic status well beyond the motor racing circuits. To mark the 60th anniversary of the watch, Rolex ensures the legend lives on by revisiting the entire range, through high-precision reworking that concerns the case and face as well as the movement. The dial received new graphic balance with resized and restyled hour markers and counter rings. Subtle combinations of colors and finishes accentuate the contrast between the dial and the counters and/or their rings, bringing even greater visual harmony and a more modern demeanor to the face of the Cosmograph Daytona. The watch is equipped with calibre 4131. This new chronograph movement, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, is an evolution of caliber 4130. Unveiled in 2023, it incorporates a number of the major innovations that Rolex has brought to its movements, including the Chronergy escapement to reduce energy loss (among other advantages); Paraflex shock absorbers to protect the heart of the movement; and an optimized ball bearing to enhance self-winding.

Octo Roma Precious Tourbillon Lumière By BVLGARI

Though targeted towards women, the 38mm case size and bundles of presence in this remarkable statement make it suitable for any wrist. This piece is the amalgamation of everything that BVLGARI is known for – well-finished angular cases, gem setting, engraving and skeletonisation are all present. In a subtle case size of 38mm, the new Octo Roma Precious Tourbillon Lumière is the only new ladies’ addition to the Octo Roma collection. Here, BVLGARI fuses watchmaking and jewelry codes in a matrix of rose gold, with a diamond-set bezel, case middle, lugs and crown that beautifully magnify a skeleton movement. Complete with a skeletonised manufacture movement and a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, it’s a visual marvel that beautifully rounds out this exciting new launch.

Carrera Date 36mm by TAG Heuer

Over at Tag Heuer, it’s the brand’s beloved Heuer Carrera Date that takes the spotlight — and with good reason. Named after Mexico’s Carrera Panamericana road race of the 1950s, the original Heuer Carrera was first launched in 1963, making this the year that the auto-racing collection turns 60. While the Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition watch was released earlier in January, these sports-meet-spunk Date models continue the celebration with admirable gusto. Returning to the original size of the OG Heuer Carrera, the Carrera Date 36mm comes with a clean, sun-brushed dial in warm silver, signature blue, pastel green and hot pink. The watch’s profile has been tweaked for a more ergonomic wearing experience: The case is 2mm thinner than existing models, there’s a new tapered bracelet design, and the crown now sits squarer to the case edge. It has also been equipped with the Calibre 7 Automatic movement, which offers a 56-hour power reserve instead of the 38 hours of its previous Caliber 5 movement.

Minerva Monopusher Chronograph by Montblanc

Just like last year, Montblanc’s design team is tapping into the 165-year heritage of famed manufacturer Minerva, to use a meticulously refinished Minerva MB M16.29 movement, flipped back to front and exposed under an open worked dial. Despite an apparent selection of movements in the archive to choose from, the MB M16.29 was one of the only movements where reversing the movement could be achieved and required an extra 21 components so the hands would move in the correct direction. The Monopusher speaks volumes about its wearer. In steel it measures 43mm by 14.18mm, with 30m of water resistance, available at the boutique located on the Lower Level.

Pilot Majetek by Longines

The new pilot-themed watch takes inspiration from a 1935 historic model designed for Czech pilots and is now revamped with 21st-century aesthetic and technical codes to measure time with the precision and reliability synonymous with Longines. The first version registered on 1 April 1935 at the International Industrial Property Office in Bern, Switzerland lends its curved cushion case shape to the overhauled Longines Pilot Majetek together with new design cues. Firstly, the upsized 43 mm case from the initial 41 mm ensures comfort and legibility in line with pilot watches. Next, the eye-catching bidirectional fluted bezel that comes mounted on the steel case is coupled with an internal fluorescent mobile triangle marker or “Starting time indicator,” which it controls while the sapphire crystal is kept stationary as opposed to the 1935 rendition which had the bezel and crystal rotating in tandem. Other interesting details include a commemorative plate etched with “1935” which conceals a newly patented mechanism, and which is affixed on the outer case at 9 o’clock, alongside a screw-in caseback, engraved with the watch name and its chronometer certification guaranteeing water- resistance of 100 m.

Clash [Un]limited by Cartier

Inspired by the jewelry collection of the same name, the Clash [Un]limited is edgy, modern, and different from the brand’s usual offerings. The Clash [Un]limited watch is characterized by an elegant mechanism that stands out for its beauty, creating a jewelry watch that combines finesse with power. Designed by the Cartier watchmaking studios, this timepiece resides in the Maison’s creative repertoire of both jewelry watches. Beads, studs, clous carrés and mobility: the Cartier codes unfold, intertwine, advance, and manifest themselves in the form of a precious watch. While the designs are extravagant, the Clash watches boast surprisingly nuanced detail. The crystal has facetted edges, recalling vintage ladies’ watches of the mid 20th century. And the outer links of the bracelet sport alternating brushed and polished finishing. The collection is made up of five models, two of which are limited edition.

Diamond Union Square Timepiece by Tiffany & Co.

An excellent choice for a budding watch collector, this watch is one in a million. In celebration of LVMH-owned Tiffany & Co.‘s revamp of its iconic New York City flagship store, the luxury jewelry brand has unveiled four new limited-edition watches. The celebratory boutique models feature dials with the Tiffany & Co. logo at the 10 o’clock mark, different from the traditional placement at 12 o’clock. To commemorate the NY’s 727 Fifth Avenue address, the 5 o’clock and 6 o’clock markers are removed and replaced with “727” along the bottom of the dial. Amongst the limited-edition watches are two iterations which see a straightforward version featuring a rose-gold case and cream-colored dial paired with a brown alligator leather strap.

The movement for the Voyager Skeleton is purpose-built, developed exclusively for this watch, with technology firmly in the service of design. The feat of the Voyager Skeleton is its artful “bones.” Its creativity lies in the way that the structure is conceived. In this case, the caliber LV60 echoes the architecture of the Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, an angular, geometric style that is also reflected in several Louis Vuitton flagship stores.
