Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2022 Show

After a long year and several months, cruises are finally starting to sail again.

While you may not be getting on board just yet, you can rest assured knowing fashion is here to transport you across the world.

A couple weeks ago, Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2022 Show transformed a promenade into fantastical reveries. Staged at Axe Majeur, a monumental site just outside of Paris, French fashion designer Nicolas Ghesquière was able to create a collection that was just as remarkable as its location.

Axe Majeur expresses a vision of utopia through twelve immense open-air installations. Using water, light, wind, sand, concrete, stone, and steel, this powerful series of sculptures aligns to convey a harmonious relationship between nature, space, and time. From the imposing “Douze Colonnes” to the commanding “La Passerelle” bridge, a striking horizon points towards new frontiers.

With the 2022 Cruise collection, Louis Vuitton steps into this singular geometry, from the “Ile Astronomique” to “Le Douze Colonnes” and “Le Jardin des Droits de l’Homme,” culminating in “La Passerelle,” opening as many imaginary portals as possible to traverse the atmosphere and — why not? — touch infinity.

Echoing the optimist atmosphere and graphic forms of the show’s idyllic settling, Ghesquière brings together a colorful ensemble of geometric silhouettes. Like the uniforms of an American marching band, (drumroll please…) the collection parades in a procession that is both assertive and joyful, propelling a sense of forward motion.

This collection is a picture of harmony in an environment that is so close and yet so far away, borderless and open to adventure. One needs nothing more than the most beautiful of passports: creation. As ever, it is unlimited and free.

The collection’s dense details and confident shapes speak to its central premise of imagining further horizons full of promise. The imagery mixes the cosmic and the everyday, fabrics made of hybrid jacquards, embroideries sewn to strange effect.

Since 1854, Louis Vuitton has brought unique designs to the world, combining innovation with style, always aiming for the finest quality. This is collection is nothing short of that.

While we might not be departing from the port just yet, we can thank Louis Vuitton for sharing their embarkment with us.
