Aventura Mall Hosts Inaugural “PAWchitecture” Competition

Prepare to be paw-sitively dazzled: Aventura Mall is partnering with The Miami Center for Architecture & Design (MCAD) and Humane Society of Greater Miami to host the inaugural “PAWchitecture” design and build competition, featuring innovative (and irresistibly cute) pet homes and play stations created by top design and architecture firms.

The spectacular designs will be on display for Aventura Mall visitors to view (and bid on!) first-hand – and trust us when we say you’ll wish some of these were made for humans.

The 15 competition entrants – which include award-winning global, national and Miami-based firms – have created interactive homes and play stations benefitting vulnerable dogs and cats cared for by Aventura Mall’s long-time partner, Humane Society of Greater Miami.

The competition will culminate in November with displays showcased throughout the Upper and Lower Levels. Each submission will be auctioned here at the shopping center and online, with proceeds directly benefiting Humane Society of Greater Miami and MCAD. Several lucky bidders will take home these spectacular designs – but it’s safe to say no one will enjoy them quite as much as the dogs and cats!

Some of the incredible PAWchitecture designs include “Bone Baywatch,” a lifeguard station-inspired design with dog toys incorporated throughout; “Copa Cat-bana,” which includes a moss wall, playful elevation and natural, warm materials; “The ‘A’ Frame Tiny Luxury Pooch House” with energy-efficient thermal insulation, a dark wooden frame and light-filtering acrylic; and the “Cafetera Dog House,” a nod to Miami’s “Cafecito” culture and art deco aesthetic.

PAWchitecture winners will be selected across several categories, including Big Woof, Tiny Barker, and Cat Condo.

Modeled after similar successful events throughout the U.S., PAWchitecture offers architecture and design professionals – as well as students – an opportunity to demonstrate their skills while giving back to the South Florida community.

The following 15 firms are participating:
