Pink ribbons will soon be visible everywhere, signifying the arrival of October’s most important observance: Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While this cause deserves our attention year-round, for 31 days, our nation comes together to increase awareness and raise funds for research against this disease, while also recognizing those who have fought this battle head-on.
Every two minutes, a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer, and one in 39 will succumb to the disease. However, with heightened awareness and early detection, the five-year survival rate is 99%. According to the American Cancer Society, between 1989 and 2015, the death rates in women declined 40% due in part to early detection and advanced treatment methods.
There are currently more than 3.8 million survivors in the country. Through our collective efforts, we can increase this number.
Several Aventura Mall retailers are “thinking pink” this October with a variety of national and local initiatives. Here are some raising critical funds for breast cancer research:
Since 2008, David Yurman has annually dedicated a limited-edition assortment of pink jewelry for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRA). This year, the brand is adding to this assortment by introducing two new styles, including a 10mm Renaissance Cable Bracelet in aluminum and pink acrylic, and a narrower Cable Bracelet in pink rubber.
David Yurman is donating 20% of sales from its ribbon motif pieces, as well as 100% of net profits from its pink rubber Cable Bracelets, to BCRF on an ongoing basis year-round.
The American luxury jeweler has also launched The David Yurman Award for breast cancer research – in the amount of $250,000 – in recognition of David Yurman’s significant fundraising efforts for the foundation. The 2021 award recipient is Dr. Haley McDaid, a New York-based scientist whose current research focuses on identifying new therapeutic options for triple-negative and BRCA-driven breast cancers.

It’s more than a ribbon for Jo Malone London – it’s a symbol that unites the brand. Jo Malone London is proud to support The Estee Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign. This year, the brand will donate 50% from the purchase price of a Limited-Edition Peony & Blush Suede
Cologne (100ml) to the BCRF from October 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022, up to a maximum donation of $60,000.

With every bottle of Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Romance Edition perfume sold, Ralph Lauren will donate 100% of the net proceeds to programs that assist women with breast cancer treatment.
The Ralph Lauren store in Aventura Mall is opening soon, and products are currently available at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and Macy’s.
Over the past 17 years, Bloomingdale’s has contributed more than $15 million to the fight against breast cancer, funding research and supporting programs that directly impact those affected by the disease.
This year, Bloomingdale’s Pink Campaign kicked off with a virtual yoga class to help raise awareness for its charity partners: The Tutu Project and BCRF. The Tutu Project was born from the personal experiences of Bob and Linda Carey after Linda was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. In 2013, Bloomingdale’s began their partnership with The Tutu Project, joining them in their mission to help breast cancer patients and their families buy groceries, cover transportation costs to and from doctor appointments, and provide additional support services. Today, Bob travels the world in his pink tutu taking self-portraits that continually put smiles on patients’ faces while raising awareness for breast cancer in both women and men.
Furthermore, now through October 31st, Bloomingdale’s shoppers can join the “Give Pink Get More” campaign by charging a $15 fee to their Bloomingdale’s Credit Card – 100% of which will fund research, support and awareness programs at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Tutu Project and he Marisa Acocella Foundation. Or, cardholders can earn $25 in rewards for every $250 they spend on their Bloomingdale’s Credit Card throughout the month. Based on the amount spent, cardholders will receive a Give Pink, Get More Card worth up to $250.
Our retailers aren’t the only ones giving back! In honor of BCAM, Pubbelly Sushi has launched the “Drink Pink” fundraiser to benefit Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The promotion features the restaurant’s limited-time-only Pink Sangria, with sparkling rosé, a dash of sprite, guava, a whole muddled strawberry, and a twist of lime.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of every cocktail will go to fund Sylvester’s wig program, which provides free wigs for cancer patients and survivors.
Pubbelly is located in the Outdoor Courtyard.
