From the Runway to Miami: MFW

This Milan Fashion Week, the catwalk felt just as dexterously beautiful as the paintings of the Uffizi Gallery. In our last installment of our “From the Runway to Miami” series, we’re highlighting the most coveted trends from Milan Fashion Week.

Trench coats, pajamas, off-the-shoulder tops, ruffles, and flowing floral prints were all spotted on the Italian style scene. While Milan Fashion Week had some of the fancy trappings and global trends of its predecessors, Italy’s catwalk was as opulent and unique as a treasure trove. Get ready to say ciao bella to sparkle of spring/summer 2017.

Silk and Sheer

Karl Lagerfeld should wear a crown to Milan Fashion Week.  After his majestic vision at Fendi’s summer couture show—you know the one where models walked on a transparent runway floating above the Trevi Fountain—spectators were on the edge of their seat to see what came next. For the spring season, Lagerfeld paired brocade motifs with ’20s-inspired silk and sheer lingerie-like pieces.

Encrusted Embellishments

Kitsch and couture were the ingredients to a witty, dazzling Dole & Gabbana collection. The Italian fashion house is known for putting on a show and pushing the limits. For starters, models were bedecked in fabrics resembling contents of any Italian kitchen—pasta, spaghetti sauce, gelato and cookies patterns. It wasn’t the Neapolitan earmarks that captured us, but the lavish rococo embellishments. Dolce & Gabbana’s decorous tassels, sequins, bows and appliques ruled the runway. When it comes to Miami’s lavish nightlife, sequined high-waisted shorts are always welcome.

Tropic Sportsmanship

Max Mara’s Brazilian-inspired collection is an uncanny match for Miami culture. With an abundance of exotic animal and palm prints, Max Mara brought the jungle to Milan. The collection’s athleisure apparel featured bodysuits, leggings, hooded jackets and technical fabrics.
