What to Look Forward to During Super Bowl LIV

It’s been 10 years since there was a Super Bowl in Miami, and what better way to usher in a new decade in the Magic City than by hosting this momentous event again at the newly renovated Hard Rock Stadium? Even if you’re not a huge sports fan, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about Super Bowl LIV. Here are just a few:

Gameday watch parties are always a good time, whether you’re rooting for your team from a friend or relative’s house, or joining a group at a restaurant or bar (Aventura Mall has plenty of great options if this is more your style).

This year’s half time performers are two musical icons: Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. Given that the big game is taking place here in sunny South Florida, the choice is appropriate — what’s a party in Miami without hip-swinging Latin rhythms? And if this is your first time tuning in to the Super Bowl, you’ll be happy to know that halftime during this game usually lasts 20 to 30 minutes — that’s more than double the length of halftime during traditional season games (in other words, more time to get your groove on before the second half of the game begins).

Oh, and we can’t forget about the commercials. It’s estimated that over 100 million people watch the Super Bowl, which means there’s tremendous pressure on brands to put their best feet forward when it comes to ads slated to go on air during the game. Companies invest huge budgets on commercials set to air during the Super Bowl (ads in 2011 cost about $3 million each, just to give you an idea) because the reach is so colossal. Past commercials have been immortalized in history because of their creativity, impact, and, sometimes, even controversy. For many folks watching, Super Bowl commercials are just as important and entertaining as the game itself.

Are you feeling pumped for Super Bowl LIV yet? You should be! Because while this event certainly does come around every year, it’s a rare treat to have it take place here at home! Restaurants and bars throughout the city will host watch parties and offer football-inspired specials, and it will be impossible to ignore the electricity and anticipation crackling in the air during the days leading up to the game. Make the most of the occasion and go all out — we’ve even put together helpful guides for you, from the best spots to catch the big game, to the best stores to shop for the ultimate Super Bowl outfit.

Game on!
