As part of an ongoing partnership, an orchestra comprised of students from the University of Miami Frost School of Music recently performed at Aventura Mall to help kick off the holiday festivities. The full orchestra – made up of current undergraduate and graduate students at the Frost School – delighted shoppers with a heartwarming musical performance of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and select movements of Corelli’s Christmas Concert.
This year’s 30-minute orchestral performance was coupled with a joyful holiday parade featuring students from the Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet dressed as Nutcracker characters. The orchestra also helped mark Santa Claus’ highly-anticipated arrival parade.
Two doctoral candidates at the Frost School, William Locke and his business partner Eric Eakes, both co-CEO’s of San Amaro Strings, worked together to tackle most of the logistics behind the holiday performance. Their company is dedicated to producing musical performances using the cream of South Florida’s emerging and musical talent. They utilized their wide network of professional colleagues at the Frost School to put together the sizable orchestra. “We’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to show what kind of talent thrives at our school,” Locke said. “Our Santa’s Arrival 2018 performance was the biggest show we’ve ever put on at the mall. We really hope everybody enjoyed it.”
Thank you, San Amaro Strings, the University of Miami and Frost School of Music, for helping us kick off the holiday season and contributing to our ever-growing arts scene. We’re grateful for your partnership, and wish you all Happy Holidays!
