Not so Spooky Guide to Halloween

October 15, 2020

Reading Time: 7 minutes

Spooky season is upon us, and we can’t wait to celebrate. Eerie ghost stories, elaborate costumes, an overflowing bowl of candy—what could be sweeter this Halloween? We might be witchful thinking here, but we have a premonition that this season will be one for the books. Even if things look a little different this year, Halloween is always a splendid time of year to get the family together, capture memories, and try on some haunt couture if you catch our drift.

We’ve done our homework to round up the perfect spell for a successful night. From kids’ costumes to family-fun, check out our ghostly guide to Halloween.

Dress the Part

Make sure your family is the definition of #SquadGhouls this Halloween. The Disney Store (located on the Lower Level near JCPenney) has outstanding costume collections for young trick-or-treaters. From new feature films like Mulan to powerful superheroes, the costume selection is a top-notch way to fulfill your little one’s dreams. Princesses, Avengers, cartoon characters, and more fill the racks. Oh, and Disney has an extra special section for your furry friends, too!

Mulan Deluxe Costume for Kids

Bring honor to your Halloween candy hustle with this deluxe costume from Disney’s live-action Mulan. As one of the most anticipated releases of the year, Mulan tells the tale of a strong female warrior that wants to bring honor to her family and people with pride. She epitomizes a strong role model, making this costume a perfect fit for girls.

Anna Costume Collection for Kids

We bet every family had Frozen 2 on repeat this year! When the film released on Disney+ this summer, it captivated children everywhere. This Princess Anna ensemble will make any little one glow. As Arendelle’s adventurous heroine, Anna is a force to be reckoned with in the Disney fairytales. Can you say #GirlPower?

The Mandalorian Costume for Kids

Every young Star Wars fan can appreciate this awesome Mandalorian costume from the Disney Store. Young ones may not be a real bounty hunter, but they’ll definitely be the best candy hunter on October 31. Don’t forget to bring sidekick Baby Yoda along for the ride!

Black Panther Light-Up Costume

The iconic Black Panther has become a symbol of inspiration for adults and children everywhere. Honor the legend of the Black Panther by dressing your child up as Wakanda’s favorite world-changer.

Tinker Bell Pet Costume

Pet parents can’t leave out their fur babies this season. This boo-tiful Tinker Bell costume will make your pup the center of attention. Now in the words of Peter Pan, clap if you believe in adorably dressed pets!

Hit the Town

Having a fun, spooky (and safe) Halloween has never been easier. Trick-or-treating, family-friendly parties, and socially distanced events can still be enjoyed across South Florida this year. We took the liberty to share the ultimate roundup of Halloween happenings to hit up with your boo crew.

Aventura Mall

While we will not be hosting store-to-store trick-or-treating this year, there are still plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy at Aventura Mall on Halloween. Enjoy a burger and pumpkin milkshake at Shake Shack in Treats Food Hall before popping over to AMC Theaters for a screening of the family-friendly, cult-favorite Hocus Pocus movie. Before you depart, stop by our hauntingly good photo station to capture the whole family’s spooky look.

Halloween Dream at Fairchild Gardens

Halloween Dream returns to Fairchild Gardens with trick-or-treating and a movie under the stars on October 31, at 6 p.m. Fill your candy bags as you trick-or-treat through the rainforest before enjoying a family movie feature outdoors. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot now.

Bonus: If you do decide to deck out your dog, bring them to the Paws on Parade Halloween Costume Contest on October 29, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a Yappy Hour with café bites for humans and doggy treats. Get your tickets here.

4th Annual Spooky Science Monster Mash

Frost Science is putting a scholastic spin on this year’s event. At the 4th Annual Spooky Science Monster Mash, taking place October 31, children can dress in costumes and prepare for a day of educational programming. Take a photo with Frankenstein, spot the pumpkins in the Aquarium exhibits, visit the “Mad Science Lab,” and see the newest special exhibition, “Nature’s Superheroes: Life at the Limits.” Reserve your tickets, put on your best costume (and face mask), and prepare to be spellbound.

Not So Spooky Drive-Thru

Want to trick-or-treat and experience Halloween from the comfort of your car? There’s an event for that, too! The Not So Spooky Drive-Thru Adventure and Pumpkin Patch is the ideal experience for those looking to capture all of the Halloween festivities in one place. As Miami’s first drive-thru pumpkin patch, the experience promises to put a unique spin on the holiday. There will be goodie bags, photo opportunities, trick-or-treating, and a drive-thru adventure that will have you on the edge of your car seat. The weekend-only event lasts through November 1, giving you ample time to visit. Learn more and get your tickets here.

Miami Children’s Museum Month-Long Halloween Celebration

Creepy cooking projects, scary storytelling, and ghoulish art will have your children entertained all throughout October at the Miami Children’s Museum. A variety of STEM activities will be offered to bewitch your children’s minds and get the whole family into the holiday spirit.

The museum will also feature an October 31, drive-thru trick-or-treat opportunity from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. The first 500 children will receive a bag filled with candy, healthy snacks, a book, and other surprises. Get additional information and tickets here.
