Attend any runway show, open any fashion magazine or walk into any retailer, and your eyes are bound to catch a glimpse of animal prints, whether in the form of spots, stripes or scales. For decades, these patterns and their textures – particularly those of felines – have inspired trends and looks admired everywhere, from the red carpet to the streets of the chicest cities and beyond.
This year, the fashion arena’s appreciation for animal prints is about to take on a whole other life, if you will, via Brazilian swimwear brand Cia. Marítima’s “Life Print” collection in collaboration with Brazilian nonprofit Ampara Animal. The organization aims to assist abandoned and rejected animals in Brazil via conservation, rehabilitation, welfare and awareness.
An initiative launched by Ampara, “Life Print” is the first certified animal print in the world in which 100% of the profits from its pieces go directly to the preservation of the endangered Jaguar species. Cia. Marítima is the first brand to embrace the project, which is brought to life via an exclusive print design based off photographs of the Jaguars supported and sheltered by the nonprofit.
As a result of this project launch, Ampara hopes to further engage with the fashion industry so that additional brands will be moved to help preserve jaguars, in addition to simply admiring their beauty.
The 12 pieces from Cia. Marítima’s Life Print collection are available for purchase at the brand’s store, here at the best mall in Miami.
