It isn’t easy to craft an instant icon, but that’s exactly what Kim Jones, Fendi’s newly installed creative director, did when he debuted his inaugural ready-to-wear collection earlier this year. Amid the stunning neutral hues and beautifully tailored silhouettes, Fendi fans instantly noticed a key detail on several accessories: the use of the Fendi “F,” employed either as a sculptural heel on a leather sandal or as the cunning frame on a clutch bag. That’s how Fendi First was born, and it’s quickly become one of the season’s most sought-after accessory collections.
Jones fully embraced an appreciation for neutral hues when designing these pieces, with the clutch bags offered black, white and beige leathers, as well as a tactile grouping of beige and pale pink sheepskin styles, while sumptuous versions in python or deep green crocodile likewise exude an undeniable sense of luxury. The F-shaped frame that tops each clutch, meanwhile, is rendered either in a coordinating leather shade to create a tonal effect or is offered in an exotic as a standout detail against beige or white leather.
The footwear designs in Fendi First are equally alluring. Ankle boots and strappy open-toe sandals in nappa leather, python or velvet, in neutral shades of black, white, beige and soft pink, are each topped by a high gold heel shaped like an inverted F, a sculptural detail that at once seems both artful and gravity-defying. Amid the logo mania that has created a frenzy amid fashion fans this year, Fendi First is unquestionably 2021’s most coveted accessories collection
