School commences next week, and while some students might not be thrilled about the approaching homework and note-taking, others are yearning for school supplies of their own. In lower-income communities, specifically, these supplies aren’t taken for granted. In fact, they’re a luxury.
As part of the CUR8 back-to-school activation, Aventura Mall is partnering with Children’s Home Society of Florida to collect writing utensils for local kids and teens in need. The donations will help students prepare for the school year with new supplies of their own, thus increasing their self-esteem, classroom behaviors, grades and more.
According to a recent survey, families with children in elementary school through high school are expected to spend an average of nearly $700 preparing for their kids’ return to campus. For many households, however, this is difficult – if not impossible – to achieve, leaving students without the merchandise they need to reach their full potential.
Consistent access to writing tools enables students to document their creative ideas, personal thoughts and more on-the-go. As author J.A. Meyer said, “a pencil and a dream can take you anywhere.” This partnership aims to inspire students and help them excel.
Donations are being accepted at the CUR8 Pop-Up in Aventura Mall’s Center Court during the following dates and times:
August 9 from 1 – 7 pm
August 10 from 1 – 7 pm
August 11 from 1 – 7 pm
