In the life of every child, there should be at least one adult that provides safety, stability and love. Unfortunately, over 1,500 children in Miami-Dade County don’t have someone to fill this role so they have been placed in foster care.

Voices For Children Foundation is the safety net for children in foster care. It ensures that every child has a voice in court by providing critical funds for advocacy through the Miami-Dade Guardian ad Litem program in addition to basic needs, dignity items, and experiences.

A safety net for children in foster care is a two-pronged approach that encompasses having a robust team of trained volunteers and professionals to advocate for the child in court as well as a fund for providing children in foster care with basic needs and normalcy experiences. The Guardian ad Litem program employs and oversees the “team” of trained volunteers, attorneys, program supervisors, and program managers who drive advocacy for children in foster care.

Created in 1984, the VFC was created as the fundraising arm to address insufficient state funding allocated for the GAL program which ensures that every child has a voice in court and has their basic needs met. The funds support the organization’s efforts to recruit, train, and support Guardians Ad Litem, court-appointed volunteers and staff who serve as advocates for the best interests of abused, abandoned, and neglected children involved in dependency court proceedings. Additionally, Voices For Children provides direct financial assistance and other resources to meet these children’s medical, educational, and social needs.

Today, VFC Miami-Dade is the largest in FL and one of the largest nationwide. Through donor and community support, VFC can continue to fulfill its core mission of enabling representation for 100 percent of children in foster care, while increasing awareness of the organization’s key role in securing their safety and wellbeing.
