Daniel Arsham

Miami artist Daniel Arsham has exhibited in New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and beyond, with work belonging to the Musee Guimet, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Miami Institute of Contemporary Art, among others. Best known for his uchronic aesthetics, Arsham explores the realm of fictional architecture, distorting recognizable forms and transporting them to an allegorical space.
Elaborating on this dynamic, Arsham noted: “Whether co-opting architecture, film or sound, my work provides the possibility of having a fantasy within the structure of what we have been provided.” In Columns, a site-specific commission, pillars, replicating those within the mall, are fractured to reveal riotous growth and erosion, simultaneously spilling from within. In this manner, the sculptures are a canvas in contrasts, presenting the angular and the sinuous, the seen and the hidden, the utilitarian and the fantastical.
By transforming the commonplace into the ambiguous and unexpected, Arsham creates a dimension of unfettered possibility where nothing is quite as it seems.
